Nantong blue calico Clouds, towers, and tradition
Natural indigo and traditional Chinese resist print design

Created in Nantong, China, during a craft and textile-focused sabbatical, this piece merges traditional resist-printing with modern architectural motifs. The design contrasts the fluidity of cloud patterns against the rigid geometry of modern urban China.

Utilising soybean paste resist and natural indigo fermentation, the work is hand-dyed and punctuated by a red satin stitch inspired by indigenous Chinese craftsmanship.
